Who is Behind This Book – and – "Why Should I Listen to You?"

You have done yourself or someone you love a service by requesting this book. The information here will help you if you are in danger of losing any property because you have fallen behind on your bills, or have lost or are about to lose your job. You may be facing a foreclosure of your home, a repossession of your car or truck, or a wage garnishment. Or you may just feel the pressure of mounting debt and see no relief in sight. The information I am providing here should give you an immediate sense of hope. There is an answer to your specific financial situation, and you should find it here.

Since the passage in 2005 of the Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act, there has been a lot of misleading information about filing for bankruptcy protection. The myths that you can no longer file bankruptcy, or that it will forever destroy your credit are just that… myths. I have compiled this book mostly from articles (blogs) that I and others have previously published on the website for the Bankruptcy Law Network (BLN). The BLN is a diverse and unaffiliated group of bankruptcy lawyers and consumer advocates who recognize that living well in America has become increasingly more difficult for the average consumer — a group which is commonly known as the "middle class".

The BLN website,, has been selected as one of the top legal blogs by the American Bar Association Journal. BLN attorneys are experienced and dedicated bankruptcy lawyers from throughout the United States. In our communities we are generally the "go to" lawyers; the ones that teach other lawyers how to properly use the bankruptcy laws in ways that will most benefit their clients. This book should give you good, solid information about bankruptcy relief, hiring an attorney and dealing with your creditors. If you are struggling under a mountain of debt, facing foreclosure, repossession or garnishment and have a desire to get a fresh start – I can help.

My name is Peter Orville. I represent individuals against credit card companies, mortgage holders, automobile lenders and taxing authorities. I've been doing it since 1989. As I mentioned above, I am a member of the Bankruptcy Law Network (BLN). I am also a member of the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys (NACBA), and serve as one of its two New York State Chairs. I am also an associate member of the National Association of Chapter Thirteen Trustees and have been a board member of the Central New York Bankruptcy Bar Association. I have been invited to speak to other lawyers on bankruptcy issues at continuing legal education programs in Binghamton, Syracuse and Cooperstown. I have also been invited by the U.S. Bankruptcy Court to be on the committee that is re-writing the local rules of the Court. I have been chosen as one of only 4 consumer bankruptcy lawyers in all of upstate NY as a "Super Lawyer" each year since 2007.
